Light

Is Light is a form of energy? Light travels as a wave and wave as energy transfer. Light can travel through a vacuum. The electromagnetic wave theory explains light's ability to travel through a vacuum. Like a wave, reflection of light obeys the laws of reflection.

The incident ray, the reflected ray, and the normal all lie on the same plane. The angle of incidence is equal to the angle of reflection.

For example, Diagram above shows a light ray being reflected by a plane mirror.
What is the angle of incidence?

The answer is C. This is because, the angle of incidence is equal to the angle of reflection. Next question, diagram below shows a boy standing 10 m in front of a plane mirror.

The boy is walking 1.5 m towards the mirror. What is the distance between the boy and his image?

A     8.5m
B   17.0m
C  12.0 m
D  21.0 m

The Answer is B, 17.0 m. initially, the distance between boy and his image = 10+10 =  20m
After the boy and the mirror moved, the distance between the boy and the mirror = 10 - 1.5 = 8.5 m
Therefore, Distance between the boy and the new position of the image = 2 x 8.5 = 17.0 m
